ABOUT
I interned as an interaction designer at DextaRobotics in 2019 summer. DextaRobotics is a company founded by a group of passionate roboticists in 2014 and develops the world’s first portable force feedback glove, Dexmo. It is a force feedback glove that integrates reliable motion capture and realistic tactile and force feedback. It’s natural and intuitive interaction enables everyone to seamlessly touch a truly immersive VR world.
My Roles
VR Demo design
We created the most polished VR demo - “Robo Revival” to exhibit at SIGGRAPH 19’ in the business track. Players will have a great knowledge of Dexmo while completing the game missions step by step. It includes all the features of our glove: motion capture, force feedback, and tactile feedback; and all the interaction modules of the SDK: finger flicking, level pulling, wheel scrolling, button pressing, pinching, and knob turning. I was involved in the game development team. We brainstormed the game design to showcase our features with missions in an attractive scenario. I also designed the interaction of the machine in the game and created 3D assets with Maya, 3Ds Max, and Substance Painter.
Visual Identity redesign
I redesigned the visual identity for DextaRobotics, created vivid icons to show the features and performance of Dexmo. I was responsible for designing all design materials for the exhibition in SIGGRAPH 19’, which included ceiling banner, leaflet, roll-up banner, social media promotion assets, etc.
Exhibition and demo
As the only staff studies in the US, I Led the team of 6 to exhibit Dexmo at SIGGRAPH 2019 in Los Angelos. We demoed our VR game and introduced our product to over 1000 people in 5 days. Our booth was one of the most popular sites in the bussiness track, which always had a long line of people waiting to test our demos. I conducted the staff arrangement, equipment setting and testing, and also the booth curating during the exhibition. After that, I assisted the CEO in business meetings in Silicon Valley and Stanford University.
In 2020, I Represented DextaRobotics at the Harvard Startup Career Fair and conducted the Demo of Dexmo at Parsons School of Design.
